What Writer’s Digest says about Danny O’Toole’s new novelette

HONEYMOON IN OVERDRIVE

Book Cover for Honeymoon in Overdrive by Danny O'Toole. A Tale of Love, Music, and Horsepower. Supercharged Photo Edition. www.OverdrivePress.com.In October 2013 Honeymoon In Overdrive was entered into the first-ever Writer’s Digest Self-Published e-Book Awards annual judging. Included in the judge’s observation below was that the book is not confined to any one genre. By crossing these boundaries Danny’s story brings—

• For you as reader (guy or gal): An 11,000-word quickie “short on pages but long on content” to share with someone very special! “Fresh,” “witty,” “quirky,” and “fun,” a romantic love story playfully leading to hot, creative amore—who could ask-a more, boys and girls?

• For you as writer: A fun start to get off on, regardless of your genre—be it one of the romance niches, other fiction, or fervent memoir—with fitting examples to explore in Danny’s companion guide, How to Write Your Sexy Story From A to X.

Judge’s Commentary:

“This book may have been short in pages but it was long on content! I’ve never read anything quite like it. It has elements of love, romance and erotica but is also witty—a constant and creative story made up of double entendres and creatively written recaps of a couple’s courtship and eventual marriage. It was kind of Patrick MacManus on steroids channeling Dr. Ruth Westheimer. I was really blown away by how much visual imagery the author could capture without ever once coming off as dull or predictable recap of past sexcapades. I loved how this is ultimately truly a love story but not like one I’ve ever read—the way he captures the playfulness and intellectual gamesmanship of long-term sexual partners who still delight in each other is just priceless and precious. Loved all the references to the folk music and influences of the 1960s which was classic, funny and was fresh in that it wasn’t all about the angst and strife in the 60s but a triumph of this couple despite all of that. I am sorry to say that I probably would have missed this book other than for judging and that would have been a shame. It was quirky and fun and I was quite surprised to find that I enjoyed it a lot. The only reason I say that is because I’m not sure what genre it fits in and, unfortunately, people tend to find books based on their interests and genres of choice, and I wish I had better suggestions on how to make those who would enjoy it aware of it. Will definitely recommend to my quirky but enlightened friends who would truly enjoy it!”
